Kawasaki Reveals J Concept in Tokyo

Kawasaki turned heads at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show with its concept “J” electric “personal mobility vehicle.” Looking like a cheetah mid-stride with a shark-fin for a tail, the “J” concept comes with two modes, “Sport” and “Comfort,” with the former setting shown in the photo below. When converted to “Comfort,” the front two wheels separate out and the hand grips move back and up, the rear tire moves in slightly, pushing the seat up so the rider is perched in a taller, more upright position, as if on a zero turn riding lawnmower.

The "J' concept also displays Kawasaki's new battery technology. Called "Gigacell," it's a high-capacity nickel-metal hydride battery, unlike the lithium-ion versions used in many current electric vehicles.

More detailed information is scarce. As with most sci-fi inspired concepts, the “J” doesn’t appear to be destined for the production line anytime soon.
